Eventide Temperance Pro

Temperance Pro speaks the language of music, operating on the 12-note chromatic scale to determine which notes bloom or fade within space. Its expanded control set shapes musical texture, directs movement, and unlocks 29 world-class spaces built entirely on modal technology.

Shape the Musical Texture

Temper and Range controls dial in the musicality of the reverb, adjusting the amount of emphasis or de-emphasis applied to the selected notes, and choosing which octaves are tempered. Target and Note Width expand on these settings for a broad range of applications live or in the studio.

Target Select (Early, Late, All): Target the moment, choose when tempering happens; at the reverb onset (Early), during the reverb tail (Late), or both (All).

Note Width: Determine how broadly each note spreads within the modal field. Lower values produce purer musical results. Higher settings disperse the note energy, for richer chorused tones. The default 50% provides a balance of focus and dispersal.

Direct the Musical Movement

Determine which notes drive the motion using the Note Selection panel, featuring Manual, Sequencer, and MIDI modes.

Manual: Build custom note selections with one click using a note-roll style input. Use the Choose Scale dropdown to instantly highlight chords, scales, modes, or even intervals.

Sequencer: Sequence mode turns reverb into a compositional
tool. Program note changes to follow chord progressions,
scales, or intervals for dynamic musical results.

MIDI Mode: Take command with MIDI mode. Connect a MIDI
device to select notes in real-time, offering an immediate,
tactile way to work with Temperance Pro.

Unique Modal Controls

The Mix, Decay, and Size controls provide familiar tools for
fine-tuning space. Temperance Pro expands on these for the
first time with modal features for shaping the ambiance in
unique ways—even with the Temper knob set to noon.

Position: Adjust the balance between early and late reflections
to change the perceived listening distance from the source.
Position can work with the Target selection to further highlight
or de-emphasize the tempering.

Density: At 100%, all modes in the space are active. Reduce
density to remove modes creating a progressively more
fragmented or lo-fi sound.

Offset: Offsets the center frequencies of all the modes by up
to ±500Hz, independent of temper settings. Reposition the
entire space up or down in ways not possible with traditional
reverbs.

World-Class Modal Spaces

Temperance Pro includes 29 spaces that sound exceptional
on their own. Intimate rooms, grand halls, lush mechanical
reverbs, and for the first time, experimental synthetic
spaces. Algorithmic and convolution reverbs have been
faithfully transformed into the modal domain using our
patented machine learning technology.

The collection includes authentic recreations of legendary
spaces, including a handful designed by acoustics pioneer
Ralph Kesseler, alongside Eventide’s original creations built
specifically to showcase the new modal reverb technology.

The Science of Modal Reverb

Imagine a room filled with thousands of tuning forks, each
one a different size and tuned to a specific frequency across
the entire audio range. The largest fork handles the deep
20Hz rumbles, while the tiniest one rings at 20,000Hz.
Temperance Pro gives you complete control over the
loudness and decay rate of each tuning fork, modeling
any reverberant space as a collection of thousands of
independent resonators, each one adjustable in real-time.

The modal approach breaks free from the limitations of
traditional reverbs, letting you create spaces that feel
musically intentional rather than incidental.

Temperance Pro responds to the language of music itself,

Two Intuitive Meters to Dial In Tempering

NoteScape Visualizer: Real time display of the reverb’s
pulsing, throbbing energy with clear indication of notes
blooming or withering, visually mapping the musicality of the
reverb.

Spectrum Analyzer: Displays the direct output of all the
modes used in the Modal Response for highly accurate
musical metering across the audio spectrum.
